Originally from Pacific Crest Alpacas, Alabaster is a full Accoyo son of Caligula, one of the most revered studs in the history of North American alpaca breeding, and PPPeruvian Urubamba, who has produced extraordinary progeny on her side also. He is most remembered by Greg Mecklem for his yearling shearing weight, which was the heaviest of all their males that year. Alabaster is large, with great conformation, bite and presense. He has great fleece coverage also. Alabaster currently has 31 cria on the ground (yes, he can throw color), with 21 of them being female. He has many more cria due over the next couple of months. It has become clear that his legacy will be his ability to impart increased staple length on his progeny. As hoped, the cria fleeces are long and bright, and at the 120 day mark were from 20 to 40% longer than their half siblings. The unique fleece style he has stamped on his progeny has recently been recognized for its qualities - we have heard it referred to as “silky fleece”. Deep high amplitude crimp, long staple length (Alabaster - 5.5” at age 3) and eye popping brightness combined with uniformity from the neck through shoulders, blanket and breech. With the passing of Caligula, these Full Accoyo genetics are becoming even more highly sought after. Being a direct Caligula son, you are getting genetics that are as close to Caligula, himself, as possible. Alabaster will be spending this season (March-October) in Wisconsin.
