Some production females are worth more than their weight in gold, and Ruby, Coppertop’s dam, is one of them. She has been such a consistent producer of excellence, with all of her offspring being winners, that we never care whether her crias are male or female. The breeding combination of Ruby and Apocalypse has been the favorite “go to” for us. Only hours after Coppertop was born and once he had the chance to dry out, we predicted that he would one day win the coveted “Judges’ Choice’ halter award. We held him off to only do one show as a juvenile, and at ten months, he went to the CABA Classic, and won the “Triple Crown” of awards- first place in the dark fawn juvenile, then Fawn Male Championship, then finally, Judges’ Choice.. TIMBERLAND had a banner year in that lineup, with TIMBERLAND male champions standing in Light, Fawn and Grey. As a yearling, Coppertop continued to excel, winning several more first places and championships in both halter and fleece. In 2011, his fleece took the Fawn Championship at CABA and had the highest fleece score of ALL fleece entries at the show. Now retired from the show ring, Coppertop is breeding and his first few crias were born in late summer/fall 2011. Two younger brothers, yearling light brown Copperhead and juvenile light brown Copperfield, will be shown in 2012. In his debut last year, Copperhead took first place in the juvenile brown male class, then took the Reserve Brown Male Champion, coming under a three year old male who eventually won Judges’ choice. Juvenile Copperfield appears to hold just as much, if not more, promise than his older two siblings.
