We had our eye on this guy for some time before finally deciding to purchase him from our friends at Paradise Farm Alpacas. Kosmo possesses an elite fleece - incredibly dense, fine, and crimpy with very fine primaries, and his brightness rivals the best white fleeces. But the fact that he maintained those fleece characteristics into a mature age drove us to bring his genetics into our breeding program. With his fifth, sixth, and seventh shearings Kosmo has certainly made his mark in the fleece show circuit. Second place out of nine entries at the 2014 AOA National Show Back-to-back blue ribbons at the 2013/2014 Green Mountain Shows Three consecutive blue ribbons at the 2013/2014/2015 Empire Shows Reserve Champion 2014 Empire Show Kosmos sixth and seventh shearings were also awarded consecutive Spirit of the Fiber Industry Awards at the 2014 and 2015 Empire Fleece Shows. The purpose of this award is to recognize the individual alpaca that holds or increases value by maintaining a fleece of the highest commercial value over time. These traits are recognized as critical to any long-term breeding strategy and include: * Maintaining fineness and handle. * Maintaining an impressive staple length. * Demonstrated good annual harvest weight. * Demonstrated uniformity of crimp/character. * Maintaining visible brightness/luster. * Demonstrated low guard hair incursion into the blanket. * Demonstrated ability to compete and excel against younger fleeces. Kosmo's first four cria are on the ground - Ice Pond Kosmic Cool Dude and Rockin O' Alpacas Ragnar are both out of Reserve Champion Ice Pond Royal Chicclette. Ice Pond Kosmic Dark and Stormy is out of Legacy Gold's Sunshine Halo, and Ice Pond Veteran Kosmic Rocker is out of Chicclette's dam - Glen Ridge Chiccoya. All four of these cria demonstrate the elite fleece characteristics we see in Kosmo. Kosmic Cool Dude was awarded a blue ribbon at the 2015 North American Show, and the three 2015 cria are on the 2016 show strings. Kosmo is available for limited outside breedings.

Daughter of Two-time Futurity Champion Snowmass Legacy Gold and out of Alianza super-dam 6P Sunshine. Her first cria, Ice Pond Lerosa by 12-time Champion IF Santiago is in our 2015 show string and has a future spot reserved in our herd sire barn. Given the outstanding fiber characteristics of the multiple champions in her pedigree, Halo could be a significant step for any breeding program focused on lasting fineness. Halo covered bay black with her second breeding.
